Samenvatting

This paper explores why most children do not walk or bicycle to school, through the analysis of data from the national Health Styles Survey. Among other things, the survey asked parents: (1) if their youngest child bicycled or walked to school at least once in the month prior to the survey, and (2) whether or not any of the six targeted conditions made it difficult for their child to walk or bicycle to school. These conditions were weather, long distances, crime danger, opposing school policy, traffic danger,or other reasons. The paper presents the results of the survey. (Author/publisher)
