Samenvatting
In the centre of Graz there is a crossing where a concentration of accidents could be observed. The cars approach this spot at a high speed and because of the prevailing conditions, such as wide and declining streets, the drivers even increase their speed before reaching the intersection. To obtain a more adequate speed "optical brakes" were placed in one direction by a special carriageway marking. The result was a reduction of 40% in accidents with personal injuries. The risk of drivers getting used the effect has to be taken into account.
