Samenvatting

The problem faced in this paper is relevant to modelling and simulating the traffic behaviour on highways. The model taken as a basis can be viewed as the superimposition of two levels: the lower one is a macroscopic model of traffic, the other is a discrete-event description. A subdivision of the freeway traffic into two different classes is introduced. The dynamic characteristics of the variations in the presence of each class are also considered. Two Italian case studies, one mountain and one Riviera, are considered. (A)
