This paper deals with unobtrusive observations of kindergarten children and their accompanying adults when using a zebra crossing leading over a bicycle path and a two lane road with traffic volume of 400 veh/h for both directions taken together. The author looked into the extent to which children showed normative (i.e. safe) road crossing behaviour; how well the adults set an example of the desired behaviour when they accompanied their children to and from school; and, to what extent children were protected by the adults when crossing. Furthermore the author tried to discover systematic patterns in the correlations between behavioural items of both children and adults. (Author/publisher).
