Die Untersuchung prueft den Einfluss des Fahrerverhalten auf die Teilnahme in Motorradsicherheitstrainings fuer Fortgeschrittene. Verfuegbare Motorrad-Sicherheitstrainings gibt es viele verschiedene: sie umfassen sowohl "off-road" Training, Stunt-Schulen, Pauschaltouren sowie formelle Fortgeschrittenen-Trainings. Da die Teilnehmerzahlen bei Motorradtrainings in Grossbritannien in den vergangenen Jahren dramatisch zurueckgegangen sind, ist der Bedarf an Fahrleistungsverbesserung fuer Motorradfahrer allgemein bekannt und es gibt ein vielfaeltiges Angebot an verfuegbaren Trainingsprogrammen. Die Untersuchung basiert auf einer Auswahl qualitativer Forschungstechniken wie Zielgruppenuntersuchung, Tiefen-Interviews, Projektionstechniken und Motivationsstufung und findet verschiedene Motivationsfaktoren, die sich anregend, mitreissend oder hinderlich auf die Teilnahme an Motorradsicherheitstrainings fuer Fortgeschrittene auswirken. Die teilweise wirren Vorstellungen ueber Sicherheitstrainings bei Motorradfahrern und daraus resultierende Konsequenzen werden ebenso aufgezeigt wie Traegheit und Selbstgefaelligkeit der Fahrer. Die hohe persoenliche Einbringung und Identifikation von Motorradfahrern mit ihren Maschinen und ihrem Fahrstil werden von einer hohen Ego-Empfindlichkeit begleitet, die durchaus aus Trainingserfahrungen resultieren kann. Des Weiteren widersprechen Aspekte wie die Faszination des Motorradfahrens als Flucht vor dem Alltag und als Zugang zu hedonistischen, manchmal sogar heldenhaften Bestrebungen den umfangreichen Planungen und Formalitaeten, die mit einem Training in Verbindung gebracht werden. Die Untersuchung zeigt ausserdem, dass sich Motorradfahrer mehr und mehr von den urspruenglichen Werten des Sicherheitsgedanken beim Motorradfahren distanzieren. Als naechster Schritt innerhalb des Forschungsprojekts sind deshalb Fragebogenumfragen geplant. Konsequenzen fuer Anbieter von Sicherheitstrainings fuer Fortgeschrittene werden ebenso diskutiert wie alternative Ansaetze zur Bereitstellung traditioneller Sicherheitstrainings. (Author/publisher) Abstract in English: The study examines behavioural factors influencing levels of participation in advanced motorcycle rider training. Available pathways for rider development in motorcycling are many and varied; they include off-road riding, stunt schools, packaged touring and formal advanced training. With participation rates in motorcycle training decreasing dramatically in the UK in recent years the need for riders to develop and refine riding skills is widely recognised and the supply of training schemes available has proliferated. A selection of qualitative research techniques including focus groups, in-depth interviews, projective techniques and motive laddering are used. The study identifies several motivational factors that push, pull or obstruct participation by motorcyclists in advanced rider training. Existence of confused visions of training schemes and their outcomes amongst motorcyclists is revealed as well as rider inertia and complacency. The high levels of personal involvement and identification by motorcyclists with their machines and riding are accompanied by sensitivity to perceived ego threats that may originate from training scenarios. Also the allure of motorcycling as an escape from conformity and as an avenue for hedonic, sometimes heroic and often spontaneous quests militates against the extensive planning and formality associated with training. The research also uncovers evidence of dissociation from the values of safety culture amongst motorcyclists. A quantitative approach involving questionnaire surveys is scheduled for the next stage of the research programme. The implications for providers of advanced rider training are discussed as well as consideration of alternative approaches to the provision of traditional supplier-oriented training courses.
