Samenvatting

In his introduction to this publication, the author considers the rapid rate at which technology has advanced in the field of transport management. A wide range of detection systems are available but there still remains the problem of communicating information to the driver. The use of radio data systems by Trafficmaster and Columbus to move towards this is briefly outlined. The increasing involvement of car and truck manufacturers in the development of total transport is described. In addition to building vehicles, the systems to inform and navigate them are being developed. The ability to inform the driver and even possibly take over control of driving raises a number of ethical questions. These include limiting personal choice and the question of responsibility in the event of an accident.
