The meaning of colour for the human being is often underestimated. Colour is always around us, even when we do not notice it. After an introduction on the different aspects of the colour theory, the function of colour in the physics is discussed. The physiology of colour, the influence of illumination on colour, the contrast of colours and the psychology of the colours are mentioned.
