From a review of german and foreign literature and publications on the psychophysical pressure on drivers during a journey the factors investigated are seen to be traffic densities, the highway layout and driving speed; furthermore, observations have been made on the effect of individual traffic situations and the accident density of a particular section of road. In addition the journey length, psychoactive substances such as alcohol, nicotine etc, personal characteristics of the driver and pre-journey stress are all considered to have influence although the last two are mentioned in hardly any publications. More precisely illustrated as physiological indicators are heart-beat frequency and galvanic skin-reaction and as psychological indicators the results of associated exercises and changes in driving technique.
