Samenvatting
The relationship between policy and research, which have their own responsibilities but are high interdependently, is discussed. The main aims of a traffic safety policy are outlined. Various indicators are developed in order to describe traffic unsafety. A systematic classification of problem areas and the application of indicators to assess the aims per area are described. The means ro reach these aims are discussed and various examples are given of pedestrian models to evaluate the safety indicators.
