Station experience : station layout through the eyes of the customer. In this paper customers’ wishes are translated into a station lay-out designed to enhance both the passengers’ experiences of time spent at the station but also their whole rail journey. It is apparent that ambience and image are becoming more and more important in determining customers’ choices, and that it is possible to take these into account at the design stage of a station. In this context we can distinguish two areas within a station, fast and slow. The fast area takes account of the needs and desires of those passing through while the slow area concentrates on the demands of those making use of the station’s facilities. (Author/publisher)
