Samenvatting

A rationally designed new signposting system was implemented in metropolitan area. Surveys were carried out before and after implementation to determine levels of benefit and motorists'attitudes. A study has been carried out in a predominantly metropolitan area which included a relatively high investment in the implementation of a new rationally designed system of direction signposts. Surveys were carried out before and after the implementation of the new signposts. The results of the survey are discussed both in terms of the role of direction signs as a navigational aid for drivers and in terms of the benefits which resulted from the implementation of the new signs.
