The policy of the Dutch central government regarding public transport is to decrease the financing by the government, and to stimulate the public transport companies to be more self supporting. The consequenses are quick main transport lines with relatively less stops. On the contrary the accessibility and availability of public transport is important to be competitive to the car. A plea is made for an extra investment of 100 to 200 million Dutch guilders per year that can improve the infrastructure of public transport in such a way that it can decrease the use of the car.
