Samenvatting

On behalf of the regional inspection physical planning of the Ministry of Housing, Physical Planning and Environment, an analyses of the `actual' accessibility has been made for eleven employment locations in the region of Eindhoven. The method used has been developed by INRO-TNO in an earlier study `The accessibility of locations'. It gives a quatitative estimation of the potential reduction of car use instead of the usually used method based in egress characteristics. The analyses shows to what extend public transport and bicycle is a realistic alternative for car use by employees, based on their expected home to work travel times per mode. A distinction is made between the present situation and when public transport is improved and/or strict parking policies are implemented. The results show important differences between locations and large effects of the combination of better public transport and strict parking policies. The analyses can be an important help for the implementation of a location policy for employment which aims to reduce unnecessary car use.
