There has been a strong increase of the mobility in the last decade. The share of the category 'driver' in this growth has been increased slightly. It is clear, that the stagnation in the demand for public transport, and more specifically for transport by train, has come to an end. Because of economical and environmental considerations, it is important to start a policy concentrated on restricting the increase of the mobility by car use. The starting points of such a policy have been focused on influencing the selection of place of living and working, of destinations of other activities and of the transport mode. The role that the Royal Dutch Touring Club (ANWB) can play in influencing this selection is described here.
