Samenvatting

Accessible Randstad : from model analysis to administrative choices. Traffic and transport models have become an indispensable part of policy making. Increasingly model analysis is being used in strategic decisions making. Over the past few years a discussion has been taking place in the northern Rim City (Randstad) between designers and economists with regard to long-term choices on the location of extra residential and commercial development areas. In this paper we shall demonstrate how transport model analysis plays a determining role in planning considerations. In the process of defining a problem and searching for a solution, model analysis serves to identify both the problem and the cause of the problem. By identifying more clearly with the partners’ perception of the problem and through the use of the simpler integrated traffic model components, the use of models in such processes could be made more efficient and have a greater influence on any discussion. This process will require more active dialogue between model developers and policy advisers, in addition to the development of new tools and better presentation techniques. (Author/publisher)
