Beschermen van beton in verband met aanbrengen van zeer open asfaltbeton Z.O.A.B.

This contribution describes ways in which concrete surfacing on bridges and fly overs can be protected from water and deicing salt. Porous asphalt was used as a wearing course for the Pleijroute in Arnhem. This porous material was also used on the 765 metre long Koningspleijbridge across the river Rhine. Because the porous material was used on the bridge it was thought necessary to provide the concrete surface of this bridge with an extra protective cover. Normal practices were considered inadequate. The solution used was to cover the surface with a 4 millimetre thick membrane which was reinforced with polyester.
