Samenvatting
This report summarises the method and results of a user comprehension study on VSL among Australian road users. The previous research identified some inconsistencies in current VSL practices and opinions. The purpose of this driver perception study is to clarify how road users interpret different sign formats and messages. This report summarises the method and results of this study. A structured interview format was selected and eight scenarios with accompanying photographs and DVDs were used. A total of 248 motorists from four capital cities: Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney were interviewed. The results of this study provided some very useful recommendations to practitioners.
