Samenvatting

There are a few concrete roads in Norway. It is found that concrete roads made of high strength concrete have greater wear resistance, but they are difficult to lay since workability is often low. In a tunnel the surface was scarified after ruts up to 30 mm deep had formed. Joints were damaged. Conventional scarifying is not feasible for concrete of higher strength than C60 without damaging the slab. Diamond grinding must be used. The road was salted during whole winter but high strength concrete exhibited no frost damage. Coefficient of friction varies between asphalt and concrete surfacings. At temperatures around freezing, it is lower on concrete.
