Samenvatting

For shops a guaranteed and regular supply of goods is a vital condition. Therefore traffic caused by goods deliveries is essential for the inner-city. Lorry drivers tend to look for parking space as close to their destination as possible. This sometimes leads to double parking, blocking of lanes, etc. It may result in congestion as well as interference with the environmental quality of the shopping street. The article outlines some quantitative aspects of goods delivery (number of deliveries, time, duration, type of vehicle). Big differences were found caused by non-compatibility of definitions, methods and periods of observation and data handling. The article describes a model that can be a useful instrument when reviewing the effectiveness of parking facilities for loading and unloading. Such parking areas, relatively small in size, will only be profitable for a small number of nearby-shops. (Author/publisher)
