Bicycle as a means of transport : how can it be considered ?

This paper describes a new methodology to analyze the cyclist routes using a Geographical Information System (GIS) software. It intends to establish the relationship between the travel forecasting transportation models and the cycle ways methodologies that will consider some specific cyclist travels characteristics. In this context, GIS plays a fundamental role: to identify and to model cyclist transportation network. It can be used as an integrating element between the methodological phases in cycle way studies. The methodology was successfully applied in a case study to the Brazilian city of Sobradinho.
