Samenvatting

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a huge buzzword in the architecture, engineering, construction, and facility management industries. BIM is used to manage a building through its life cycle and this same technology can also applied in the area of transportation. Typically BIM uses 3-dimensional, real-time, dynamic building modelling software to increase productivity in building design and construction, encompassing building geometry, spatial relationships, geographic information, and quantities and properties of building components. Today's transportation modellers and traffic engineers also have to consider many elements when undertaking a scheme evaluation. One solution is TRANSYT from TRL Software which finds and studies the 'best' fixed time plans with which to co-ordinate traffic signals in networks. TRL Software and Traffic group has linked with Transport for London's SCOOT UTC system with VISSIM to enable modelling simulations to be undertaken.
