Samenvatting

DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) for VICS (Vehicle Information and Communication System) in Japan is composed of infrared beacons which are located along urban roads and quasi-microwave beacons which are located along expressways. Its service started in April 1996. While passing through the two different types of DSRC zones, it is required to maintain interoperability for the navigation system, and is designed for easy installation of the OBU (On-Board Unit). A multimedia OBU which ensures smooth communication with the different types of beacons by using a co-processing procedure has been developed. This OBU also offers easy installation to the vehicle by using the multiplexing technique that the different types of DSRC signals and DC power supply are multiplexed on a coaxial cable which connects with a head unit and a control unit.
