Samenvatting

The number of rear-end and multiple collisions involving passenger cars and delivery vans has increased dramatically in recent years. This study analysed the extent, nature and development of rear-end collisions, with a special focus on accidents occurring on motorways, as based on accident data from the Dutch Department of Public Works. In regard to injury problems caused by rear-end collisions (predominantly neck injuries), use was made of casualty data from medical sources. At the time of the study there was no link yet between the sets of accident and injury data which were used. (A) For the second part see C 11059 (IRRD 491574).
