Samenvatting
The report presents a state-of-the art review of national bridge inspection schemes and identifies the major elements of strategies for systematic inspection. It highlights the basic justification for bridge inspection programmes in the framework of the total bridge management system. The various categories of bridge inspection are defined in terms of scale and frequency, and a detailed list of bridge elements and components to be inspected together with the main types of damage is presented.
