This workshop addressed the safety of bull bars in relation to pedestrian safety, occupant protection, and engine protection from animal strike and other impacts. Key stakeholders and safety experts presented papers that discussed: the use of bull bars in aggressive driving and parking in metropolitan areas; the need for protection from animal impacts in rural areas; the effect of bull bars on vehicle crush rates, airbag triggering, and occupant injury, using computer modelling, the effect of bull bars on pedestrian injury severity using full scale dummy testing and computer modelling, the effect of bull bars on compliance with Australian Design Rule 69/00, Full Frontal Impact Occupant Protection.
