Details are given of the development of bus priority in SCOOT as part of the PROMPT (Priority and Informatics in Public Transport) project, part of the DRIVE II programme. The options for bus priority that were available are discussecd and the technology chosen outlined. Trials carried out in Camden in October and November 1994 involved a number of strategies including a) SCOOT control, b) central extension only, c) local extensions only, d) local extensions and recalls and e) central extensions and recalls. The results include details of a) bus journey time savings and delays, b) effects on general traffic, c) safety and d) an economic evaluation.
