Samenvatting

A plea for public transport by bus which must be made more attractive, is presented. It is argued that traffic restraint is not the main solution to reverse the drift away from public transport. The paper comes cut strongly against operating subsidies for public transport. Public transport should engage in market research programs to find out more about their passengers and how to increase their share of total transportation.
