Samenvatting

Origin-Destination (O-D) information is an important component of transport planning, enabling planners to estimate the current demand between any two locations. By tracking the change in demand over time, it is possible to predict future capacity requirements for the road network. It can also predict possible revenue from road charging schemes. Researchers have found ANPR data is more inclusive and representative than the traditional question and answer survey. Different permutations of road usage, including journey times, lengths and locations can be worked out using mathematical equations. This can provide pertinent information for planners including continuously up-dated O-D information; information about complex journey patterns; commuting and other regular patterns of travel; foreign vehicle travel patterns; and average journey lengths for different parts of the country and for different population densities.
