Although CORSIM is widely used for analyzing intelligent transportation systems (ITS) projects involving traffic signal systems, very little literature can be found regarding the calibration of its platoon dispersion model. This paper shows a systematic approach to compute the speed decile distribution used by CORSIM to simulate platoon dispersion. A comparison of CORSIM simulation with the calibrated model for one of the sites studied in Indiana (US31) showed a significant reduction of 15% in travel time along the corridor versus simulation with the default parameters. These results show the importance of calibrating platoon dispersion when evaluating ITS projects using CORSIM simulation.
