Demand responsive transport systems (DRT) are considered a possible solution for the problems of transport in the suburban areas of cities. These systems have been used in Europe for several years to provide public transportation in rural areas and for certain social groups. However, there are very few experiences in metropolitan areas. In the Metropolitan Area of Granada, shortly, a DRT will enter into operation. An investigation was carried out to evaluate the operation of this system. This study indicates that the installation of this system will cause a positive modal change toward the public modes of transport. This presentation describes the results obtained during the investigation and it is suggested that the installation of this type of system can reduce car use in metropolitan areas.
