Samenvatting
An account is given of part of the `Rebuild New York' project which involved the extensive repair of a complex interchange known as the `Can of Worms'. The approach taken was to divert traffic both by constructing alternative routes and by diverting traffic to park and ride and car pooling schemes. Details are given of the considerable amount of public relations work involved in the scheme. The reconstruction work, which involved replacing or repairing 16 bridges and replacing a deteriorating pavement, was managed using the Critical Path Method. The advantages of using this method are described. Another useful project management technique was the use of a scale model. Project management software used on the contract is also described.
