Samenvatting

An investigation into some of the problems of growth and transport facing Canberra is described. Evaluation of the problems produced by a prediction of their likely retailing and travel patterns, congestion, capacity for growth, and level of demand for major facilities, led to the identification of some practical planning principles which pointed to the most acceptable urban form and the distribution of activities, structural balance, configuration of transport system, and strategies for the programming of expansion, which together provided a strategic plan concept for continuing growth.
