Samenvatting

Increase of capacity and punctuality of train services is a very important item. Most problems occur at stations, where space is limited. Application of measures needs insight into the train process, but the Dutch Railways still aggregate train detection data at a level of minutes. Therefore the real process times cannot be estimated well. The University of Delft, section Transportation and Planning has developed a method to determine these process times at a level of seconds. In this way, a precise insight of delays can be given. The method will be described in this paper, with examples from the station The Hague HS in the Netherlands. The more efficient use of existing capacity can be reached with a whole range of possible measures. Also capacity-increasing measures will be dealt with, like the use of control systems. For future, determining the effect of these measures is important. Progress will be made when effects of these measures on punctuality in relation to costs, are known. (Author/publisher)
