A promising method to estimate capacity at a volume below capacity is to decompose the headway distribution into two parts, corresponding to following and non- following vehicles. The inverse of the mean of the headways of the followers is a good estimator for the capacity, if the decomposition detects the right part of the distribution. This paper concerns the validation of this assumption. Three models of mixed distributions of headways are investigated.
