Samenvatting

The performances of eleven cars in test manoeuvres have been compared with estimates of their 'loss-of-control' accident rates. Since many approximations had to be used it is not surprising that no clear-cut conclusions were obtained. Nevertheless there were some indications that: (a) a high maximum speed in dry tests may be associated with a high loss-of-control accident rate in dry conditions, and (b) a high maximum speed in wet tests may be associated with a low loss-of-control accident rate in wet conditions.
