Samenvatting
One of the many problems currently facing highway authorities is determining priorities in respect of allocating decreasing funds available for highway improvements. Within this context the paper examines the purpose of improved lighting against a background of increased road traffic and rising accident and crime figures. It looks at the development of street lighting, the current assessments of benefits, the latest design recommendations and the justification for further improvements.
