Reducing speeding on Victoria's roads is one of the TAC's top road safety objectives. The TAC's Wipe off5 campaign was first launched in August 2001. To date, it has combined three phases -mass media advertising (television, radio and billboard) and Police enforcement, supported by publicity -to educate motorists that a small drop in speed (5km/h) reduces the risk of a crash. It aims to dispel the myth, that exceeding the speed limit by 5km/h or 10km/h is safe. If every Victorian motorist reduced their average speed by 5km/h and travelled at the speed limit, it is estimated that 95 lives could be saved and more than 1,300 serious injuries prevented each year.
