Samenvatting

A demand-responsive system of the demand bus type with respect to its practical application and feasibility was investigated in a selected average-sized American city. An intensive market research was carried out by 3 teams, in order to establish the socio-economic city characteristics, the expected passengers potential, and chances of political acceptance. A computer simulation study was made, as well as a cost study of the system. Results and operational characteristics of the system are discussed. In practice there would be greater scope for a favourable bus service than under the unfavourable conditions assumed in this research.
