Samenvatting

Tony Woods explains how a new technology is being employed by the German police force to control road offenses. The kit used by the police comprises a fully operational video camcorder to capture and record a driver's excessive speed or other traffic violation and an electronic payment machine for collecting the fine, all securely mounted within a standard, off-the-shelf motorcycle pannier. An unusual aspect of the hardware is that it was specially designed, developed and produced by the North Rhine-Westphalia Police themselves in three days with the help of 3D modelling software- the Geomagic Studio system. The new machines that have recently been introduced are indistinguishable from a normal production BMW. They are finished in blue and there are no obvious lights or signs on them to indicate that they are police vehicles. (Author/publisher)
