Population, housing and numerous other socioeconomic data collected and published by the united States Bureau of the Census decennially have been a valuable source to urban transportation planning studies for analysis and forecasts. In 1960 information was collected for the first time on the journey- work and automobile ownership. These data have greatly enhanced the value of the census for urban transportation planning studies. In addition to the printed reports the 1960 census data are also available on computer magnetic tapes for use by other agencies. The tri-state Transportation Committee, financed by Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York the federal government through the U.S. Bureau of Public Roads, and the U.S. department of Housing and Urban development, has made considerable use of census data both in printed form and on magnetic tapes. In addition to analysis made a number of reports have been prepared, covering the journey-to-work in the Tri-State Region, as well as tape files that can be readily used by other agencies in the region.
