With the directive 2004/52/EG the European Commission paved the way for future interoperability of toll charging systems in Europe. Future systems are requested to be based on GNSS/CN technologies. These technologies in principle open the way for a penetration of commercial telematics applications to the mass market. This paper addresses a list of potential telematics applications that could be based on an existing charging platform. However, before starting the next "telematics hype" some open questions need to be tackled. There are still some technical issues, but even more important are the procedural and economical issues to be solved in order to achieve integrated solutions. These are in particular the procedural integration for different parts of a comprehensive telematics system as well as the responsibilities for the handling of the system components.For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653
