Challenges in urban travel forecasting.

The need for travel forecasting models which take into account the current needs in urban planning is discussed. These models should reflect the socio-economic changes that have occurred in recent years. It is concluded that the past efforts in travel demand forecasting were largely successful for the purposes for which they were intended, but the current transportation-related issues are far more complex and require a concerted effort on the part of the profession to meet the challenge.
