Samenvatting

The question whether people will keep their travel habits when they grow older is important concerning the development in use of car compared to other travel modes. The analyses in this working report are based on the national travel surveys from 1984/85 and 1991/92. The age groups are 50 years and older. The development of their travel behaviour shows an increase in driver licence holders and in the access to a car. Few report health problems connected to car driving, while a greater portion says that they have problems using public transport, walking and cycling. During this period there has been an increase in shopping trips and trips connected to leisure activities. This increase is mostly due to car use. (Author/publisher)
