Techniques used in Kent, UK to improve driver attitudes to speed are described. Theatre in education is used to promote the dangers of speed and the anti drink/drive messages in schools. Radio advertisements are used on local commercial radio stations. Since 1993, Kent County Council has conducted a programme assessment, reassessment and training for minibus drivers. A joint speed limit enforcement/education project called 'Operation Victory' has been initiated with Kent Police. This consists of issuing a 'Kill your Speed' leaflet and a verbal warning to drivers 5-10 mph over the speed limit and the option of prosecution or attending a re-education evening being offered to drivers 10-15 mph over the limit. The speed indicator device (SID) and speed warning device are used to increase driver perception of speed limits.
