Samenvatting

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has initiated an AHS program as part of its Intelligent Vehicle Highway System effort. AHS will use automated vehicle control as a major upgrade to the nation's vehicle-highway system. A national consortium of AHS stakeholders, along with USDOT, is to demonstrate proof-of-concept in 1997, and select the AHS concept to be used for operational evaluation early next century. This paper describes the characteristics of an AHS decision support system - including its models, simulations, analyses and tests - that would be used in making this selection. (A)
