Samenvatting

This Report describes an investigation into the incidence, causation and severity of chest injuries in unrestrained drivers and front seat passengers of cars and light vans who survived a road accident, but who were detained in hospital following it. The relation between the severity of their chest injuries and other injuries and the angle and other design characteristics of the steering wheel and column assembly is discussed. Some comments are also made upon the level of tolerance of the chest to impact. (Author/publisher)
