The data of this report were drown exclusively from non-pedestrian accidents occurring on rural or open highways. The proportion of children in injury-producing accidents is markedly lower than the proportion of the national population which they represent. Children in automobile accidents are injured less frequently and less severely than others. As age increases the frequency and severely of injury also increase. Rear seats are safer than all others. The comparatively mild injury experience of children can be further reduced by exploiting the protective aspects of rear seat positions.
