This volume of papers on the protection of children as motor vehicle occupants is the third series in which the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) and the International Research Council on the Biomechanics of Impact (IRCOBI) have participated. This collection of papers adds to the body of knowledge on the effectiveness of child restraint systems with data from observational surveys, insurance files, hospital records and field studies, including a depth crash investigation. In addition, four of the papers in this volume address biomechanical aspects of child occupant protection comparing the various contemporary anthropometric test devices in use to examine current issues such as side impacts and child-airbag interactions.
