Samenvatting

More than 1, 500 children under 15 years old die and thousands more are injured every year in the United States in motor vehicles. Children under six months old have the highest death rate- 9.0 per 100, 000 populaton, or double the rate for one years olds. This publication looks at the national public health tragedy of children in motor vehicle crashes. It describes special problems (riding unrestrained, lap travel, hazards in the passenger compartment, misuse of car seats, etc), shows what happens to unrestrained children in a crash, and examines various ways children could be better protected.
