The paper deals with the problems of choosing adequate conditions under which to use the constant warning time (CWT) systems. It is known that under certain train movement characteristics the application of the CWT-systems does not give a considerable effect in reducing the real warning time. A technique is suggested that helps to estimate the advantages of using a CWT-system as compared to the conventional system taking the train movement characteristics into account. Recommendations are given concerning conditions under which it is worthwhile to use the above mentioned types of systems controlling level crossing signalising devices. (A)
